Heat Up the End of May

Brutally hot this morning. I was hoping for a thunderstorm last night, not to frighten the cats but to cool them off. Certainly looks like a day when big storms could pop up any time.

I figured my job when I get home tonight is to brave the attic and retrieve the various fans that live in various windows. I turned the one fan off this morning figuring it would only drag hot air into the house during the afternoon.

I’ve been giving a co-worker a lift to work recently and it’s given my daily commute a different route and some new woods to look at. I may not be one who puts on the mileage and elevation gains in the deep woods but I am a continual admirer of where woods and civilization and sunlight converge.

Last night I was wondering what my life would have been like if I’d moved somewhere more remote (we all have days of wishing for a remote address right?) I realized I don’t need to live too far into the woods, just somewhere off the beaten path where the stars still shine brightly.

Random #haiku

You don’t think: I win
your whole manner says you do.
But not with me, sir.

the macadam heat
rose up to meet my sandals
pavement ooze melting

ice crackles and pops
the glass sides ripple with drops
coolness to forehead.

wilted cats and windows

When i got home tonight the cats looked like those paintings with melted watches etc. So I opened up some windows and turned on a fan for them. Aren’t I nice? My window opening downstairs was limited last year, and probably this year, because of the neighboring pigs. As in, right next door pigs. Yeah I know… I got nothing.

But in any case, there’s open windows downstairs and we’ll see if the cats look less wilted. Onwards to sticking more squares on the wall now.
