Ironing on a grey afternoon

I’m ironing the last section of piecing. In a short while I’ll be able to join the sections together and iron the last two sets of seams. Steady goes it!

Had some excellent hash for breakfast this morning, made by my folks in our old family tradition. It was yummy!

Bit of weather coming in. Hopefully it won’t interfere with the laundry-in-progress or the ironing.

ha ha moment #haiku

those ha ha moments
sometimes they’re the same
as ah ha moments

yep – tonight’s epiphany: more seams equals slower ironing. I knew that.

the more seams there are
the slower the ironing
yeah yeah I knew that.

Watch what you’re doing
Be in the moment, in it.
be ready to laugh.

If it gets too hot,
Just step out of the window;
roof view of the stars.

Star watchers #haiku

I sat on the roof
to watch the stars swinging by
but they were fireflies.

In blackness below
the green glowing twinkling brief
repeating. repeated.

The green calling lights
remind me of childhood nights,
singing in the dark.

When I was just small
the satellites were fewer
we’d wish on them too.

Now when I’m older
I look up and see how small
I am. Very small.

I still look upward
tracing shapes learned years ago
looking for a wish.

Wondering who else
might be wishing on the sky
Send my wish to him.

star watchers be glad!
sing of the wind, dark, sweeping!
ride the shooting stars!

Summer arrives and other thoughts

Sometime today I’ll probably tip over into the three hundred thousandseys. I know that is really pure bean-counting but there you go. Sometimes watching the beans pile up and knowing the exact number is what it takes to keep you going piling them up.

Got a brochure yesterday for Quilt=Art=Quilt yesterday and pondered awhile last night what quilt(s) I might have to enter there. Generally the time frame isn’t right for me to enter there or sometimes wrong for showing. The quilts are there quite awhile which is good for visitors but sometimes not for the quilts. Anyway I will ponder that some more and think about entering. I’ve never had a quilt accepted there.

Also received the SAQA quarterly. Very slim, too slick for my taste and too hot to spend anytime with it. It did serve to remind me to send off the extra bits they want to exhibit along side the seasonal quilts in Houston. I don’t much like those things but whatcha gonna do? They particularly asked for pieces of fabric and quilting samples so people can TOUCH something. Ahem. I don’t think that’s to be encouraged but again, not my decision.

I did manage to iron a few rows of stuff last night and I’m hoping it will be cooler tonight. I felt bad for the poor wrung out cats – they were looking pretty limp. Oh wait – so was I!

I’ll see if I can pull together an envelope full of “work in progress” stuff for SAQA and figure out where it goes to and then buckle down to ironing tonight. If I could get the thing sewn together as a piece tonight and start the other-way sewing tomorrow that would be wonderful!

And there you go – 295 more words down.
