Oh the possibilities

I have a couple days off and I’m waiting for a thread order and for the heat to abate a bit before starting to quilt this sucker. So…. what to do, what to do. I’d like to go for a little road trip but where and for what purpose? Got suggestions? leave them below or wherever you see this.

I was noticing that there are exhibits going on over in Billsville. I also noticed that the Williams College Museum specifically allows sketching (please use pencil) but nobody else mentions anything of the kind except maybe, don’t photograph.

On a similar note, following a link to a link and rummaging a bit, I found this link to a couple of courses offered by a sculptor. Don’t these sound cool and all? Makes me want to look up the recommended books. Sandy D whose original link led me there thought they could be used for self-study and I have to agree, if you’re willing to look honestly at your classwork.

well I’m off to figure out a backing for this quilt. I ordered a bunch of thread at lunch time so maybe I should just stay home and eat PBJ’s for a few days to make up for that.

Doing the work, Woody Allen Style

I’m watching the American Masters Show on PBS, a documentary about Woody Allen. He started writing jokes and submitting them to various newspapers and magazines who began to print them. But he didn’t want the kids in school to tease him about them so he came up with the pen name Woody Allen. Most of what he did in his young days resulted in a working life that was relentless. He practices his clarinet constantly. He starts writing a new project the moment the current project is done with editing. He types on a manual typewriter. When asked, he demonstrated his cut and paste method using scissors and a bunch of small staplers.

I come away so far with the notion that

  • he did the work in several arenas and lived to tell the tale with some success.
  • Also, touch typing will always serve you well.
  • Having a cool alias/pen name is a good thing.

I’m going to work on the last one.

Cat tipping followed by
tummy rubbing.
Much tummy rubbing.
Head and ear frisking.
More tummy rubbing.
Tip over
whoever isn’t tipped.
Tummy rubbing.
Exclaiming over
wildly beautiful
tummy spots. Spots!
Closer inspection of spots.
One black leg spot.
Chin chucking.
Patting of cat cheeks
with yummy freckles.
Sliding of whiskers:
silky, bristly, just right
between appreciative fingers.
Head butting,
a final skritch.
A long slow blink.

Insider Joke #haiku

Scott Higgs is teaching
the virtue of giving weight
not the Bos(t)on mass.

There is nothing quite
like a terribly bad pun
that’s an inside joke.

There’s so much you’d have to know to understand the first haiku, it made me feel bad writing it, especially when I couldn’t resist adding the parens… so sorry all.
