What day is it?

Long couple days at work but it was fun as well as tiring. It started pouring as I left work and I got ahead of it, but then I stopped at Staples where I got some paper and got a great deal on some pencils and pen that I didn’t really need.

Purple Fountain Pen!

purple pen!

Now I’m going to set up a little plate of noshies and see what trouble I can get into.

a day without them
feels odd and stiff, unfocused.
Haiku, done daily.

sometimes in the car
i tick off the syllables
and forget the miles.

too tired, i type out
a palm-full of seventeens
and now I can sleep.

Pooped and needing to make up with the cats

I’m off to try and get a few more pages into The Left Hand of Darkness. Last night I went to bed at a reasonable hour, knowing I’d have to be up extra early to be at work by 7. I was wide awake.

The cats apparently took my tension and tossing as needing their especial healing powers. So they took turns, usually two at a time, standing on me. Not cuddled up next to me, but standing on whatever part of me was available. By early morning I was so annoyed that I brought my knees out suddenly from under whoever was standing on them and I heard one furry body roll into the window to my left and another roll off the bed to my right. Oh well.

We had a busy iPhone 5 launch day. And while I would normally be a bit tired, tonight I’m really pooped.

I did manage to print out the Gnomic Sagas in two-sided, booklet-form terrific-ness which makes me happy. I’m sure I’ll now find a lot of typos but I can live with that til next time. And I even used one of the cool CD’s I got from Dover of Celtic and Norse Designs.

All of this is blatant procrastination while I ponder the next quilt. I know it. But it was still fun to mess around with.

It was a slug sex I tell you! and other #haiku and #haikupedia

So I’m walking through the weeds along the shoulder of route 20, looking for my hubcap, thinking people are just slobs, throwing their garbage out windows all these years later, when I look down, eye caught by a pearl-like globe:

slugs, mating

I take a couple photos, observe without touching and move on. I posted the photo on facebook and it got questions. So I looked into it. I originally took the white globe as an egg (thinking it odd and improbable. Always go with your gut on those feelings). Turns out I’d caught the two slugs, Deroceras reticulatum, in flagrante delicto. How’s that for a wallop of latin? You will be latinized!

Yup, it’s true. Tis the season for slugs to reproduce and then die with the coming of the frost, leaving the next gen to be around for the coming year.

and now, the obligatory #haikupedia

Limax maximus
recent immigrant you come
to eat our hosta

I have not seen you
only smaller versions, true,
Limax maximus

Two Deroceras
met in the woods and I, I
just stood by, watching.

Two Deroceras,
the reticulatum
kind,
met and made some more.
