Geek, while waiting (Tumblr-related)

While I was waiting for the washer to arrive I decided to putz around with Tumblr. People are devoted to it (some would say to the point of addiction) and since I now have a wordpress plug in that will let me post updates to any number of social media stuff… why not see how it works.

First there were the obligatory hoops to jump through to allow tumblr and wordpress to talk nice. Once the secret handshakes were learned and inserted it was all a matter of playing around with the looks and settings.

Not at all a bad thing and we’ll see what comes of it. I guess that if you are the sort who uses Tumblr to aggregate your blog and web news, you will be thrilled to bits to hear of this development. The rest of you, as you were: nothing to see here.

We have washer!

But alas, I am warned to wait until tomorrow before washing because it had been sitting on the truck most of the day and might need to thaw out residual water in system…

Cold Day in the Neighborhood

I’m home early today, awaiting the arrival of the new washing machine. Nasty day for moving big metal things around but what can we do? It was about 3F this morning when I went off to work and I’m sure it was not the coldest temp of the night.

As near-New Englanders, we know that this is traditionally the coldest time of the year and we are good at soldiering through it. We put on a sweater, a hat, mittens, an extra blanket: whatever it takes to add just a bit more to our normal routine and then, we get on with it.

Things that make us happy

Tomorrow afternoon – new washer arrives. Hopefully the whole thing will be uneventful and then I have some stuff I need washed. I did get in a load of clothes not that long ago but I have other stuff including some fabric that needs washing. So I’ll be the one happy after the fellow from Rensselaer Appliance departs tomorrow.

Tonight there was some surprising amount of snow falling and blowing around and I was pooped, having started the day quite early. I decided to head home but what to eat, what to eat? I needed a break from pasta bolognese, as much as I like it.

So here’s what made me happy tonight:

a clump of broccoli cut up into nice-to-eat size
a quarter or so of a medium onion cut into chunky pieces
a couple cloves garlic sliced fine.
EV olive oil
sauted the above in the oil in a hot pan and threw in
a handful of grape tomatoes cut in half
added a good handful of grated parm cheese
some generous amount of black pepper
and in a crazy moment, cracked an egg into it.

Oh my yes.

In other news, I’m hot on the trail of a much reported Álfaskólinn or Elf School* in Iceland. There are lots of reports on it but no links I can find to the school itself. What’s up with that?

* School about the study of elves, not a school for elves to attend. Just to be clear on the whole thing.

Fabric, chopped and ready to sew

OK Mom, I took one fabric out of the mix but there’s a tidy pile of squares and a messier pile of strips. If someone wanted to make log cabin or chinese coins or one of those loooooooong strip quilts…. it could work.
