guess I’ll have to watch the hobbit…
Pre-NaPoWriMo workouts
To write a sonnet every day – my goal,
for April is a month to wax poetic.
This year my writing task might take a toll
though I hope the poems won’t be pathetic.
This year my words will be shaped to sonnet
and though I’ve not been one inclined to rhyme
I’ll don my wordsmith-rhyme-scheming bonnet,
making the feet march properly in time.
In third quatrain, the subject takes a turn
the volta changing theme or stance or view
to ask if there is something we can learn
it seeks an answer or what we may do.
The final couplet settles to complete,
keeping to the path of iambic feet.
the mundane, redux
I headed out this morning to get Argento the fiat’s oil changed. They did some routine maintenance stuff too and ordered a new display array (yes that’s right, a display array) to fix the lagging clock problem. Known issue friends, known issue… so they’re going to replace the whole dashboard view in order to fix a clock that doesn’t keep time… OK. Anyway that took longer than I’d hoped but on the other hand it cost me zero dollars.
While I was waiting, I re-read some material I’d bookmarked about sonnets and wrote one, which I shall post shortly. Turns out the rhythm is more of a challenge than the rhyming. Should be an interesting April. I’m quite sure the person sitting nearby must have thought it weird that I kept ticking things off on my two hands. How do cool poets handle that?
Buoyed up by that I went to Bed, Bath and Beyond and bought some reasonably good twin-sized sheets: a set of two sheets and a pillow case and an individually sold flat and fitted sheet. The sheets are currently in the washer.
I resisted the urge to buy a small blow dryer which apparently is de rigueur for watercolorists.
I did not resist the urge for a little Baggallini purse. I was sad they didn’t have a laptop-sized number of some form but they do specialize in small bags, afterall. Anyway this appealed to everything Virgo about me and turns out to have a little “secret” compartment on the body-side of the thing and can be used across the body or on a belt using the same strap. That’s what it says folk, I just report what I see.
Oh and PS, it’s snowing.
This morning….
grackles.
They seem appreciative of the bird feeder as they sit in the snow…
And they don’t seem to mind sharing with the equally hungry red-winged blackbirds.
