Visiting friends

I’ve been thinking about my NaNoWriMo lately, helped in part by a certain song coming up repeatedly in shuffle. A sign? A nudge? Who knows? I picked up re-reading and making tweaks today. I felt like Matt, the main male had some concerns that could be brought up while he was asking other questions – sort of get it out there earlier. I have to work on this one bit that gets told too many times. Once while happening and once later as requested is probably good.

Anyway it was a good couple hours of reading and editing and thinking about it all.

The Oneness of Everything

There I was reading along in Lord of Light by Roger Zelazny and then this:

They came from all quarters, the four Regents of the world, come down from Mount Sumernu: The Master of the North advanced, followed by his Yakshas, all in gold, mounted on yellow horses, bearing shields that blazed with golden light; the Angel of the South came on, followed by his hosts, the Kumbhandas, mounted upon blue steeds and bearing sapphire shields; from the East rode the Regent whose horsemen carry shields of pearl, and who are clad all in silver; and from the West there came the One whose Nagas mounted blood-red horses, were clad all in red and held before them shields of coral. Their hooves did not appear to touch the grasses, and the only sound in the air was the music, which grew louder.

The power of the Nagas in all things… I had been reading along thinking about the strength of the four powers, the four directions etc in so many legends and then, the Nagas…

Stop and smell…

this morning as I was walking towards the freight entrance at Crossgates I looked up and against the bright blue sky was a turkey vulture… no, wait… eight turkey vultures. Circling, enjoying a nice draft and well I have no idea if they were circling something in particular other than crossgates mall, but I’ll just leave it at that…

Welcome to Crossgates! Home of the Vultures!

Dear Other Drivers

Dear other drivers,

I am tired of being the one who is always-watchful as you come barreling off westbound I-90 at Exit 11. Rarely am I proven wrong when I suspect that you won’t stop at the end of the ramp. Glad for you that I have a good car with decent brakes and tires and THAT I AM A BETTER DRIVER THAN YOU ARE.

My horn is tired, my brakes shouldn’t suffer and you’re on notice: you have a freaking stop sign because you’ve reached the end of the off ramp. That means you STOP and look for traffic.

So instead of being grateful for my good car and my better-than-you driving skills, surprise me and actually STOP at the end of the ramp. I promise to smile and think kindly thoughts about you, which I promise you I do not do now.

To the woman who recently DID stop at the end of the ramp and then backed up the entire off-ramp (if you’re not dead somewhere since then): you are a complete idiot and I’m sure that you will be for the rest of your relatively short life. Stay far away from me.

The rest of you: Stop watching NASCAR and driving like you’re some hot shot pro driver. You’re not and you’re making commuting painful. A round trip commute is not a race track. Just stop.

Here’s to the “ridiculous” ones

doesn’t quite have the same ring to it, does it? In any case, here’s to the ones who stop to observe, take some pictures (as many as it takes and then some) and then who share with others… despite how “ridiculous” some might think that is… It’s not. They’re wrong. Keep looking and taking pictures and sharing…
