NaPoWriMo and The other part of April

While I have managed to write some poetry everyday of April for NaPoWriMo, a lot of my time was spent giving a quilt project a serious shove.

While auditioning backing fabric it came to these two and it gave me a laugh. The black may win out but not for the other’s lack of trying!

Day 27, NaPoWriMo early haiku

Coming down the stairs
Surprised to hear the heat on
A cool forty-eight.

Rainy day and chill
April says it’s not quite May
For a few more days.

Turn off the soft light
And turn on the sharp edges
Cold rain, late April.

Warm coffee for starts
Folding and some ironing
To heat my fingers

Day 26, NaPoWriMo

I had this thought “now bound with bones” today while getting out of the car. Then it went out of my head while I continued listening to the adventures of intrepid questing folk and working on my latest project.

Once flexible, now bound with bones
where once fingers went flying round
go smaller stuttering reaching.
The mirror looks unfamiliar
while mind revels in laughing youth
how then to reconcile this truth
that while the physical reflects
the pile of years, dreams shout and dance.
Working I am without a year
but some remind me every chance:
nice to see someone “of our age”
what have I done that they could not
other than not make age and death
the center of my life each day.

Day 25, NaPoWriMo, Anaphora

What’s that you say, NaPoWriMo.net? An Anaphora? “Anaphora is a literary term for the practice of repeating certain words or phrases at the beginning of multiple clauses or, in the case of a poem, multiple lines.” All righty then.

Any questions?
Do I have answers? Of course
plus those I make up.
Any questions?
Not a requirement, certainly.
I could provide the
answers, anyway.
Any questions?
I’ve got a few of my own
help a girl out?
Any questions?
If you’ve got a minute
I’ve got a second.
Any questions?

Found on Facebook, haiku fodder, NaPoWriMo

Lines from two friends on Facebook just lent themselves to an impromptu haiku. Pardon all the exclamation marks, I spent a good chunk of the day in middle earth.

Oh! Gene pool martyrs!
Suicide pedestrians!
Walking perilous!
