Today’s LotR quote

‘A great Shadow has departed,’ said Gandalf, and then he laughed, and the sound was like music, or like water in a parched land; and as he listened the thought came to Sam that he had not heard laughter, the pure sound of merriment for days upon days without count. It fell upon his ears like the echo of all the joys he had ever known. But he himself burst into tears. Then, as a sweet rain will pass down a wind of spring and the sun will shine out the clearer, his tears ceased, and his laughter welled up, and laughing he sprang from his bed.

‘How do I feel?’ he cried. ‘Well, I don’t know how to say it. I feel, I feel’ โ€“ he waved his arms in the air โ€“ ‘I feel like spring after winter, and sun on the leaves; and like trumpets and harps and all the songs I have ever heard!’ He stopped and he turned towards his master.

Taking a break while quilting

I got to the part of The Return of the King which contains my favorite, oft-quoted part. I need a break tonight from being on the edge of tears, of holding my breath for the brave hobbits and their loyal steadfast friends.

Paul Simon to the rescue. Music to quilt by and dancing in my seat.

Today, my treat of a fruity smoothie at lunch time did a slo-mo-tumble to the floor of the food court. The starbucks app which had just moments before allowed me to refill my virtual card refused to let me log in and use it to get coffee (no biggie). Brief appearance at work of ex. Gives one pause of how the rest of the day will go.

But, the answer to that was: pretty darn well. Really nice, happy, excited customers, some good and meaningful time with co-workers, a sad farewell to another one and then chipotle for dinner. Now quilting. All is well.

So when that long hard out of the heart of Mordor lead relentlessly to my favorite quote, I knew it would all be ok.

Do the Work

This, found on the delightful Sandy’s blog, bears reposting and I may watch it daily for awhile. It’s that good. Thank you Ira Glass, and Sandy!
