Learn to draw

This was one of the books offered by the New York Public Library in a collection on how to draw. You can see and flip through the whole book here or see all the NYPL’s suggestions here. They allow as they have “a few coloring books, but we’d prefer that you not color inside them.” Have to hit an art supply or book store for that. Meanwhile here’s a how-to from the late 18th century.

From the Quote Box

What Am I?

What am I in the eyes of most people — a nonentity, an eccentric, or an unpleasant person — somebody who has no position in society and never will have, in short, the lowest of the low.

All right, then — even if that were absolutely true, then I should one day like to show by my work what such an eccentric, such a nobody, has in his heart.

Saturday

This was in my mailbox today so thank you!

Got up, went to the Post Office to send out a package: much tapping on keys, filling out of forms, question answering and stamping of things but it’s on its way. Had breakfast in Nassau and then returned home, still undecided what to do next.

Next thing I knew I had cleaned the cellarway shelves and had moved all the kitchen canned goods onto those shelves, which is where it had normally lived in the past. Now I just need to remember to look there and use all that stuff. Spent the rest of the afternoon moving other stuff around and trying to decide what to do with the newly vacated space.

Now: dinner.
