Important Life Skills Dept.

It’s a good life skill to be able to amuse yourself and focus your attention on stuff that’s going on.

Weekend

I’ve been keeping Mom company as she had her right hand carpel tunnel taken care of Friday. Easier procedure than a few years ago but dominant hand so that takes some adjustment. We were way too silly last night as we tried to figure out a way to keep her hand elevated without cutting off her circulation and we’ve otherwise had a good time.

Today I’m home for a little while because I had to follow through on my hankering for BBQ. That’s in the oven starting to smell quite good. The sauce is on the stove cooling. Laundry is ready to go into the wash and I’m going to catch up on a few other things. You know, important stuff like switching out listened to Yale Modern Poetry Classes on the phone for un-listened to sessions. Stuff like that. And dishes. Can’t get enough dishes.

And summoning up the strength to go to a work meeting tonight and then a 7:30 work training tomorrow…

Fun things to do on a Saturday Night

What can you do for fun on a Saturday night?

Hang out with Mom and try to figure out how to tie a triangular sling so that it

  • is effective and
  • doesn’t strangle her and
  • she can get in and out of it herself.

So far we have laughed quite a bit, realized we’re neither one of us good at origami and that these things may be mutually exclusively.

At least I haven’t strangled her or stuck her with a big pin. We’re using a square of a rather ancient bit of Dan River plaid, pink and blue and white that is 35″ wide.

No photos, to protect the innocent.

Things that make you pause

Sometimes you need to stop and look. Maybe take a photo or two to remember or reference what you stopped to look at. Stopping and looking is always good though. This was my front porch the other morning.

A week or so ago I stopped and looked at the grocery store, in part due to fond NYC memories and in part due to the funny package labelling and in part just because of the view. I’m adding it here for posterity since it already had its moment of fame on facebook.

More brio for table one please!

There needs to be more gusto in my life if I am to get more brio into my brush — exercising patience will not get me a hair’s breadth further.  — Vincent Van Gogh, to Theo, March 1884
