Yes I was the older woman wearing black and tie-dye and a small, working tiara and my tat sleeves. If that didn’t mess with the normal mall-goer’s cognitive sense of reality, I can’t help them.
After work I had a lovely dinner with my Mom at a little restaurant in Rensselaer. Funny thing of the night – we decide on that as our destination. We get there and the people ahead of us going in was a former neighbor of Mom’s and her daughter. We all got told that they were pretty booked but that it shouldn’t be too long – reservations, Friday night etc etc.
So we chatted while waiting and the hostess came back and said, “I have a table of four available, any chance you’d like to sit together?” And we all said yes!
An unexpected bonus, for sure. Had a lovely time, sharing memories and catching up. The food was excellent. We got separate checks and even though I had a Newcastle and a creme brulée, Mom made out pretty well because birthday people get a free dinner!
We all ended up with enough food for a couple days and rolled out of there quite content and happy.
All in all a good day. People who had cognitive dissonance: you can thank me in a few days.
What a lovely coincidence to enhance your dinner outing. Glad you had a lovely time, Happy Birthday, by the way. I also was wearing a tiara that weekend as “dress up” at Northwest Passage contra dance camp. If one has one it’s important to take it out and enjoy it once in a while!
