Today was the day, daffodils burst out
the clouds rolled up and across the sky
but the flowers lit up the front garden
and the side yard corners they’d landed in.
The rain splattered down as I went about
with the few errands on my to-do list
Spring’s warm wind pushed against the house awhile
but still it was gentle and blew on past.
The weather felt right but life was disturbed
The dailiness stabbed by terrible events again.
The long slow grind, the fear of distant threats
the battle: sudden terror and long strength.
Now yellow windows of home calling us
to return in each season strong and bright.
I rummaged all day for something to do in longer form. I didn’t want to just do some daffodil haiku. I did a few errands and then came home and did dishes and had dinner. That’s how procrastinating I was: I did dishes rather than sit down and write.
So here you go. Now I’m going to get something else going on.
