Close Encounters, The Sonnet-ized version

I wanted to try this again. There’s some oddness to it but what the heck I thought, I’ll push it around and see if I can get fourteen lines out of it.

I slammed on my brakes while
the turkey, red-bronze-shiny
all dotted and ticked and banded
and stretched out to oh so tall –
he took one, two, three more steps
and then took flight with ease.
All that in the moment of stopping.
A half mile later, large and prehistoric,
a blue heron passed unworldly
he was the shadow crossing above.
Last night a great falling star
dying made me gasp as it sliced the sky.
put wing against the air. take flight
leaping, falling, brightly, darkly.
