After last night’s deep soaking rain, the whole world was clean and shiny this morning. I started out to work.
Turns out that the Reclamation paving company, who won the bid to repave Route 20 between Schodack and New Lebanon doesn’t watch the weather forecast. They started yesterday by starting the next section of pavement and bailed when it started coming down in torrents. The rain effectly ate away at the section of pavement they were working on leaving a swiss-cheese-ness of potholes. The other cars and I traveled slowly, swerving around to avoid the many many holes.
Until, as I swerved one way to avoid two big potholes, a third one grabbed my tire, threw my hubcap away and dented my wheel rim. I pulled over as soon as I could and walked both sides of the road looking for the hubcap, but nothing.
When I got to the Nassau Stewarts, three guys asked me if I’d found my hubcap. When I came out, one fellow pointed out the big dent in my rim and snapped the other hubcap back into place.
Then I went on to Thoma Tire, just west of Nassau. There I made one young guy very happy by letting him drive a Fiat (although his shifting into reverse needed a little work LOL). They got me in and straightened the rim and said they didn’t think the tire was damaged but I should get my front end checked out. They charged me $16 and I gave them $20 for the prompt and neighborly service. They even gave me a detailed receipt I could turn in to the paving company.
I’m going back out tomorrow with boots to see if I can find the hubcap but I’m not holding my breath. Then I’ll have to schedule a visit to the Fiat guys. Thanks Road Guys. You mess up my morning daily and now this. Oh and the state transportation dept office said they heard another complaint about the quality of the road surface and would be checking it out.
After that auspicious start I went on to a most remarkably weird day. Altogether marvy. I am drinking a drink and now I’m going to go read some stuff.
