I think at some point I did figure out how many outer plain squares I need (hereafter known as “brown squares”) and after that I tried to forget about that number. Sometimes it’s just better not to know, right?
I’m adding squares to all sides of the central area in an effort to distribute all the different fabrics through out. Also it means that if I end up adding a few more fabrics I can mix them in here and there and not worry about it.
I’m pretty pleased with it. It reminds me of 36 of course – main interest in the center of the design and then all this “border” area around it with a whole lot of quilting. And strangely, it turned into the same size as all the rest of my quilts. What’s up with that?
