After seeing random mentions of fountain pens in various places, and looking at some purveyors of said objects of desire, I found two long-forgotten, rather inexpensive version in my desk organizer, along with cartridges for them.
Hmmmm. What are the chances of them working I thought. Just as I would have in the days of regular use, I ran some barely tepid water through the nib part until ink started to appear in the sink. I shook out the water and blotted the nib and popped in a fresh cartridge.
Talk about instant gratification. Perfect smooth writing. The second one I did is from a “calligraphy” set which is fun in a different way but it was just as willing to spring into life. I don’t imagine I’ll be turning from the easy flow of finger and keyboard to longhand writing (but it is so romatic, eh?) but I am glad to resurrect these two old friends.
Today’s mention of fountain pens and why people still love them is from this article on the BBC: Why are fountain pen sales rising?
