A list of very mundane but odd things:
- I think today is the end of my week of working every other day. In some ways it was rather disorienting, as in “what the heck? what were they thinking? what day is it?” In some ways it was just weird. Mostly though it gave me a great longing for “retirement.” Go figure.
- Went grocery shopping last night. Bought some greek yogurt to try with some blueberries for breakfast. It was good. Not “nectar of the gods” sort of thing but ok. Have stuff to keep me going for awhile.
- I came home the other night to find there was a new “trash” can, for single stream recycling – one of the weirdest ideas in modern life. We used to separate our recyclable things: glass, metal, plastic, paper. Now it all goes into one bin and gets taken away. For someone else to separate? To get put into the landfill? I have no explanation.
- I’m ready to layer my current quilt. It will need another bit of ironing but then it is all set to go. Time to get going with the pins so I can get going with the sewing machine and get that quilted.
- I decided I would watch all the Harry Potter movies before the last one came out. I had avoided all of them because I loved the books too much. I have watched the first two and found them enjoyable and strangely, very simple. Not so strangely – a different experience altogether from the books. I’m good with it. On to the next.
- I’m ridiculously happy that I got an invite to Google+ I am still figuring out what it is all about but no doubt you’ll be hearing more about it. Beautifully designed interface.
Thoughts from here…there are a heck of a lot of “working years” to deal with before “retirement….” It certainly seems further off as it becomes more appealing. It rubs salt in the wound to know people who are already there, particularly younger than one will arrive at that point. My work schedule has been random and variable for nearly 10 years…I NEVER know what day it is anymore. LOL
My daughter is doing catch-up on Harry Potter also. She never even read them (to be different from her twin brother?) though she has watched the movies. She has spent the past few months reading each book, followed by rewatching that film, then moving on to the next one. My son Matt and I will go to se HP7 pt2 at the Pacific Science Center IMAX on the 19th. I’m not sure if 3D will be a good thing or not…. I’ve enjoyed the books AND movies very much, but not as much as Lord of the Rings.
Yesterday I got an email from Quilter’s Newsletter magazine…I did one of their installment mystery quilts, and when they asked for photos of finished quilts I sent them one of mine. They now want a photo release to put it in the magazine! Not the same as an original design being chosen, but am I pleased? Yes!
We’ve had “don’t sort it” recycling for quite a while…I don’t know how it works either. I rather think that most sorted recyclables were inadequately or improperly sorted…or fewer people were willing to bother at all, so they were doing a lot of sorting and resorting anyway.
We have a local greek yogurt (Greek Gods) and it is super good…probably has something to do with the high fat content, sigh.
