Last night at Peg’s birthday party we played a few rounds of “wise and otherwise“. I’ve played that before with them.
Some picks a card and selects an old proverb or saying and gives it like this: there’s an old French saying: speak of the sun… Everyone else writes down a possible ending for the saying. The person who chose it also writes, but the actual end of the saying. Everyone’s endings get passed to the chooser who mixes the right one in. All of them are read through once quickly. Then they’re read again and people vote for the one they think is right.
This can be very funny and sometimes the new finishes are even better than the originals. Sometimes you have to think that the Armenian saying might have lost something in translation.
Anyway, I didn’t always pull on the most votes per proverb, but I noticed that my endings quite often DID get votes.
I wonder if there are jobs out there as proverb crafters?
