I’ll be honest. Our family has never been huge on vegetables or wide-ranging in the “acceptable vegetable” dept. So, it was heart-warming to see a table that had:
- mashed potatoes (of course, but still a veggie)
- sweet potatoes (ditto for most)
- green beans
- mashed squash (buttercup squash because I could not secure a hubbard squash and hence could not fulfill the traditional throw-the-hubbard-squash-up-into-the-air-so-it-lands-on-the-driveway-by-twilight (so it breaks open as dictated by the force of gravity etc)
- carrots
- parsnips (in case you were wondering what the photo from yesterday was, yeah, that’s the trimmings from parsnips)
Added to turkey, stuffing, two types of cranberry, rolls, two types of pumpkin pie…. well a good time was had by all.
That sure did look beautiful. I enjoyed all the veggies. We had a great day. Family is what it is all about. Lots of Love
“Root vegetables” aren’t a rarity for us. Parsnips easily recognized. They join potatoes, carrots, rutabagas, and sometimes beets (if I can get golden beets or decide not to worry about the color transfer…) for roasted roots with some regularity. I’ve still got a few carrots beets and kale in the garden, though it’s been pretty cold…. A reminder to me to go finish the harvest, maybe tomorrow when I’ll be home in the daylight.
Today was “Chocolate Factory” day one. John madeabout 400 chocolate truffles today. Fillings: strawberry, keylime-coconut, maple walnut, almond. Tomorrow: mint and passion fruit, then on to the ones with dark chocolate shells (these were all milk choc except for white choc for the key lime. He had made the ganache fillings ahead, so it was a matteroftempering chocolate, lining molds and filling them. About 12 hours work. He hates to shop for Christmas giftso he makes chocolates.
