One morning I was driving to work and I had a couple of thoughts. But I was driving, couldn’t write anything down, couldn’t even fumble around and get the ol’ iphone voice memo thing working etc. I don’t like to fumble around with things electronic while driving, no matter the good cause. A few minutes later when I pulled into the parking lot, the thoughts were totally gone. Not a trace of them other than the notion I’d had something worth having thought of. I mentioned this to a friend but what are you going to do.
The next morning I got in my car to go to work and about a half mile down the road the whole thing came back to me. I tried not to get too excited. Honestly I hadn’t given a shred of preparation to – what if it happens again! I had quite a drive ahead of me too so I decided I would just repeat the bits to myself a few times until hopefully they’d have stuck or at least be retrievable.
Still a little bit in progress, but here you go:
Morning Commute
The coffee kicks in.
My age this year
is a speed limit.
Ha! Does it hold me back?
Sometimes I’m faster
Sometimes I’m slower
Sometimes I’m the only traveller
Alone on the road.I near my off-ramp
I see more or less of my days
as the road goes ahead
straight or curving
Sometimes I’m only a traveller
and the road my familiar.
Nice! I like it.
I like it! Best keep that iPhone voice memo thingy handy during future commutes–sounds like that’s your creative time. Mine is in the shower, so I guess I need a waterproof iPhone. Got one?
