I wrote another 348 words or so today at lunch time and who knows, I might even write a few more later tonight, but yesterday after I crossed the NaNoWriMo finish line I kept writing all night. I’ll have to set up my own system of figuring word counts and progress because those silly little bar charts are way more motivating than I could imagine.

Anything that works gives [others and yourself] a reason to push you in the direction of the thing that works. You can spend your life imitating yourself. …how am I going to be that person that wrote this thing four or five years ago who I just don’t associate myself with anymore … it takes some pretty big acts of courage to be like “I’m not going to do anything like what I did last time”

Good for you. Me knew someone who loved charts and graphs. You can make them talk to you.
Word counts, bar charts, personal best times for required exercise (I have a million ways to subvert or downright avoid, damn!), and all kinds of goals and reminders, taken on willingly, really do help. It wonderful that you kept writing all night!
