Things which only seem coincidental

Sometimes you just can’t make this stuff up.

Last night I was wondering just how close Wales is to Ireland and I tried to figure out where to put my main’s father’s family, in Ireland. No they weren’t going to walk across the Irish Sea but I was pondering this anyway. I found a mention that there’s a point where it’s about 31 miles. There’s a ferry that takes about two hours to cross, not really a straight line path.

I remember this idea as being in the Mabinogion where there is a crossing to Ireland and the largest of the party wades across. I went this morning to look this up and in the current version of the Mabinogion I’m toting around I found this in that very part of the story.

I knew there would be Wales and at least a bit of Ireland. And Welsh. So, when are you going to Wales? Can I come…with time in Ireland, of course. Might even spur me to brave the genealogical threads leading across the pond.
