Greetings from Lake Tekapo

This morning we rode and walked around the cathedral area of Christchurch, where they continue to work on taking down earthquake-damaged buildings and putting up new ones to take their place. Quite sobering but hopeful too. They’ve put a lot of work into making places attractive to residents and visitors and if you’ll check out the flickr array you’ll see lots more of what we saw.

We drove up to Lake Tepako, stopping briefly in Geraldine. The view from our room is amazing and we had a good walk both at the little church and around the outlet of the lake itself. Many other visitors were wandering around too.

Late in the day we noticed this amazing bit of cloud, coming over the mountains across the way. (OK, total geek moment here, it reminded me briefly of the flooding of the Bruinen in LotR. OK, you can stop laughing now!) It would have made a great time lapse video as the clouds poured over the top ridge and then over into some of the gullies.

We had a nice dinner in a local pub with a big window to watch the cloud situation unfold and now we’re ready to face tomorrow’s adventure.

Magnificent. Good timing to see this. The wonders to see. Thanks for sharing. I am adjusting to the time change. Need to get moving if I want to make my usual church time.

Beautiful pictures! Thanks for sharing your trip. They DO all look like LOTR. I guess that makes sense, but I had wondered if most of the beautiful scenes in the movies had been filmed in places that were impossible to reach without the special transportation options they used. So glad you are having such a fine time.
