It’s been quite a year, and I’m still out there (some would say I’m really out there but what does it matter if you’re having a good time?
But happy birthday to me, and thanks to everyone who made it all possible!
In other news – still kicking around in Azeroth. I have a new mid-level alt, Magesty and my original toon is coming along too, she’s now officially halfway to 70. My main, QuiltMage just finished leveling her last profession! Woot! I switched her to tailoring a couple weeks ago and spent about a week getting her into the 300’s level-wise and it’s been a slow grind with endless farming for materials to get her to the end.
Why do this? Because you can get good gear like this, but you can only make it yourself. So it will hold me until I can get quest/drop stuff. But tonight I plan on making this robe, one way or another!
Next up, this! (why taking so long? only get two of the pieces of fabric, every four days…. Good thing real life fabric doesn’t work that way!
OK, I’ve thought David Pogue was pretty cool for a long time, especially after seeing a video of him playing piano at the TED conference. Tech and guts – good combo, I thought! But you should run to the NYTimes web site and see ALL of his recent pieces on the iPhone. Tech, guts and just plain out funny. What’s not to like about that mix?
This is his latest video piece. Un.believable. Look around for the rest, like this one because laughing is always a good thing!
And secondly, there’s the satisfying laugh that comes from observing human behavior. Human behavior is, afterall, somewhat predictable. Sometimes though fate steps in and delivers a great punch line. So here’s your laugh for the day in that category!

OK, yes, a WoW player young enough to be telling me about a recent band-camp adventure, asked me how old I was. I waffled a bit, since to me one of the great things about the online experience is that nothing like that a) matters and b) is 100% guaranteed. He pressed me for a range, after I allowed I was at least old enough to be his mother. So I gave him a lower than real life starting point (older than x where x is my real age minus, ooooh, 10 years say – still within his mother-hood range easily).
WHOA – came the reply back. A serious gamer who is THAT old?! ummmmmm yes and what’s more there are more of us out there and many who are older than that (ummmm like me, I thought). So nice little awwww moment there for me with one of the magelings.
And in case you’re needing a little awwww moment of your own, I highly recommend this opinion piece in the NYTimes (requires free registration) about dog lives, memories and how we place things chronologically.
We’re having a good time in Ohio. We’ve met lots of interesting people – quite a few people who are very excited to be in Quilt National, quite a few others who are excited to meet live Quilt National exhibitors, friends and family of both camps… And I’ve gotten to meet people I’ve “done email with” for awhile or a long time and that is always a fun encounter.
I’ve heard some intriguing things about my own quilt, things I certainly never ponder before during or after making them. But it was interesting to hear what people think about when they look at it. Lots of people taking photos of it and I got asked quite a few questions about it.
One of the reactions I have to having a quilt in QN is “oooh – I’m in a show with some of my ‘heros'” — When you admire the work of someone for a number of years and suddenly there is their work hanging a few spots down from yours… well, it’s a good thing.
Habit is necessary; it is the habit of having habits, of turning a trail into a rut, that must be incessantly fought against if one is to remain alive.
