Art in Embassies

Nice article in today’s NYTimes about the programs that put US art into American Embassies around the world. Long-time readers will remember that my piece, along with some others’, from the Roots of Racism exhibit were sent to the US embassy in Islamabad.

Now if we could just get some attention to art/arts in US schools…

Sometimes a little attitude goes a long way

I was actually rummaging for something else and stopped by Susan Arbetter’s blog at the TU.  There I discover she’s asking folks to “submit your coup haiku” to memorialize (?) the silliness/travesty that is the NYS Legislature.  Who could resist such an opening, especially after the recent success with mage haiku during National Poetry Month?  So here’s what I submitted

NY Legislature haiku

No work ethic shown,
the session fades; we must all
remember to vote.

Mine’s bigger you know
I’m right and you sir are not
but we are both fools.

I seize the power!
The gavel is mine at last!
I’m king of nothing.

But then, that’s the sort of week it’s been:
Open mouth and let others know for sure...

in case you were wondering…

I’m making a copy of my World of Warcraft folder onto a portable hard drive and turns out, it’s 17.83 G of MMORPG goodness!  Granted – all the patches, a few photos, a couple text files of old inventory when these things were more important…. but mostly it’s the game in all its glory – or at least the part that lives on my iMac.

Blog administrivia

For those wondering what the heck is going on here, even those who have been wondering about that since early 2001:

I love the notion of the Internet – a place where people can communicate over time and space without regard to geographic location, age, sex, race etc etc and yet communicate about all these things or whatever else they have an interest in.  Years ago, to tell you about my interest in quilting or to show you my photos I might have tried to write and publish a book or travel to where you are and talk to you in person.  Now I can post things here – my progress in a new project, some ideas that might be fermenting, a photo of something I saw, a link to something that jogged my brain in some way.

If you’re not inclined to wander through 8 years of  writing, you can search for keywords or try the category choices. Other than that my blog is just what a blog is – a way to add new content over time with a way to archive and view those older entries as well.  Take it or leave it.

I don’t mean to be rude.  I’m glad for and appreciative of any readers who happen here on a regular or irregular basis.  Welcome!  Read, leave comments if you will and I hope you enjoyed for whatever reason.  If you don’t find what you seek, google is your friend.  Enjoy the web and its many treasures.

PS the link between twitter and facebook and this blog seems to be working thanks to the cool plug-in.  Now that’s an awesome bit of technology and I’m glad to use it!
