what day is it?

I was surprised to find out that today was Friday. Not Saturday. Huh. Really… I’m not sure where my confusion comes since I have been reduced to obsessively checking my calendar and the emails that bear my work schedule to know when to show up. It’s a vicious cycle: I don’t know what day it is and so I’m not sure what time to show up. and since I continue to not hang onto what day of the week it is, I still don’t know what time to show up. It makes my heart hurt on many levels.

I was able to get the batting I need to continue on with the blue and yellow quilt which is good. Need to pick a fabric or two for the backing and start that. Also need to figure out if I want to take a few days off to push that process forward. Deadline and all that. Somehow the ol’ brain seems able to hold onto far off dates with particular note ok. It’s just the day-in, day-out scheduling that seems to be a problem.

Tuesday

Yesterday….. I went to the grocery store. I paused mid-produce department trying to remember what I’d thought of a few minutes before. A nice man with a heavy indian accent struck up a conversation with me and told me (among other things) he was new to the area. So apparently the happening place for older singles is grocery shopping mid-morning on a weekday? Got it, LOL. I laughed all the way to the car because sure enough there were a lot of single older guys pushing carts around the store checking out us XX types and not so many older or young-mom types shopping.

Spent the rest of the day defrosting the freezer and other fun stuff like that. woot. Now I could actually put stuff in the freezer but I think I’ll start with a bag of ice against those days when the power fails or I need a lot of cold beverages.

Stepping back to look

I finished cutting and sticking all those little squares to the design wall. Last night I replaced the vertical fabric that I was least fond of, but I am not really convinced that my replacement will be the final choice. Well there’s time to ponder on this. The most strange thing to me is the difference between what my eye sees and the camera’s recording. The new camera consistently over-saturates and makes the whole more contrasty than it appears to me

Anyway, it’s all up there now and you can look here to see it in all its over-saturated glory. You’ll just have to trust me that it’s mushier in real life.

It is a total pleasure to be able to see the whole thing spread out. I hope I get better at knowing where to start or remember to start in the middle and work out to the sides next time.

Thursday report

So I managed to get all my “horizontal” squares cut and in order and put up the first 5 or 6 columns last night. Love that part. This is all part of the “pondering how to quilt the thing that’s ready to quilt” process. Also, it turns out, an important part of keeping going – leaving the door open for the next thing by keeping it in mind and incubating and eventually in process. OK universe I get it. Postcards, small projects, whatevers. Keep the rotary cutter sharp and the machine oiled. I get it.

Now if I could just clear my head and my schedule too.
