My mission

A long time ago, I converted all my original blogger posts to this wordpress version. It was pretty miraculous but not without some bobbles. For example, back when blogs were new and wild, there were no titles. Just a date. I know that’s stunning but these were the wooly new days of blogging.

So when those got converted it put just a bunch of numbers in the title field. That was ugly and weird and I remember using some fix to remove them and it put in some hyphens instead. Not very exciting but less confusing.

Now that wordpress lets me see what pages visitors are clicking on, I can see that some folks are searching for things and reading early posts. As I see those in the stats I go over and give the post a real title. Feels so virtuous, LOL. Little by little big projects get done, right?

Life’s little ah-ha moments

Hit a patch of Lord of the Rings where several things were described as fell, so I decided to look it up to see where the word came from. This is what my iPhone Oxford said:

fell
adjective
poetic/literary
of terrible evil or ferocity; deadly.
phrases:
in or at one fell swoop– all at one time. [origin: from Shakespeare’s Macbeth( iv. iii. 219).]
etymology:
Middle English: from Old French fel, nominative of felon wicked (person) (see felon).

I read this and thought how could I have not linked fel with fell swoop? But now I know and so do you!

Sunday

Let’s just get it over with.

It’s hot. Very hot.

OK that’s done. All you people who whined all winter about how cold it was – no whining about the heat ok? Be quiet. Yes, you over there.

I worked today and now I’m home to a bunch of hot furry critters and not a whole lot of enthusiasm to do anything. I guess I’ll throw in a load of wash (excuse to go down in the cool cellar) and grab a cool drink and sit quietly thinking about things I could be doing. Maybe I’ll rummage through greens or something.

Meanwhile over on the SAQA list there’s a discussion going on about something said in the Quilt National 2011 book about the medium, but I wish they’d all read the whole thing before talking about it, although they’re not really talking about it – just talking about something not necessarily related. LOL. I was hoping for a juicy, call-out, fall-down fightin’ words sort of discussion but no. Must be too hot for that too.

The new beyond the milestone

Most of the time milestones creep up on you little by little. You see them coming and all you have to do is not miss them.

I spent tonight quilting some postcard size things mainly to get into shape for quilting the big quilt that needs to be layered. Different color threads for shading. I rarely do that in actual quilting but for little things it’s good. Plus I want to add some shapes to this quilt but I don’t really want them as appliqued. Quilted might be good.
