Lost in translation… so I was | OxfordWords blog

Great post from the Oxford folks about Irish English! I own I have a lot to be learning about all this.

Wasn’t I after singing “Come on Eileen…”

While Gaelic vocabulary still peppers Irish English speech – “Arrah what ráiméis is she on about, the leibide! Where’s the mairleógs? Sure th’amadán’s off talking seafóid again, so he is!*” – it’s Gaelic syntax that has played a significant but more subtle role in influencing Irish English speech patterns, which often sound quirky to British ears. “I’ve a job got,” announced a family friend proudly one day, along with “They’d the house redecorated,” and “Had he a drink taken?” (not all in the same conversation)

TGIF – Mid-March version

So, survived another launch. Was wondering as I left how many launches I’ve seen since 2001. Many. At the beginning they were chaotic and stressful. Now they’re pretty much under control and organized and you can sit back and enjoy them. Everyone’s pretty cheery.

Stopped on the way home for my traditional post-launch dinner. Very pleasant. Home made soda bread with raisins. Delish. I could have had a whole plate of it.

I spent part of my dinner looking through the moleskine that I keep my quilt ideas and notes and other stuff in. I looked over the notes/sketches for the just-finished quilt and was thrilled to find that some other designs sketched out after this project had been scribbled down were still of great interest to me. One seems very do-able and the other maybe-so.

On my days off this week, I will have to take the official photos of the Seasonal Palette quilt, now titled Verge. Nothing like a deadline.

Done.

Actually done doesn’t begin to describe. But let me try. Tonight, done means the label is on, sleeves and facings are done. Needs the final de-linting etc. Official photos. But it is as done as it’s going to get.

And tonight, as I literally have half the label sewn on, I get a bunch of instructions about the whole thing. Amazing. Just.Amazing.

Doesn’t matter. All that matters is that it’s done. For tonight.
