Not quite the email I was expecting

I got an email just now that is the same information I get if I go to the passport department’s page and check status. Which is basically no status: here’s your application number, here’s our normal turn around time, if you’re traveling sooner go here for more info about contacting us.

But I guess if the application went in on June 25th and it takes four to six weeks, it’s winding its way through the system. The web site was informative and the application process was pretty easy but the web site is just a dead end after that point. I guess there’s not much more they could tell me but even an “in progress, no problems” answer would be better than just generic information.

LOL, like I’m going anywhere anytime soon!

Quilting Trials

I finished up the center of my quilt’s quilting last night and hung it up to admire, document and to ponder what to do next.

Finally I gave up on throwing thread at it and whomped up a sample of the border pieces to go with the earlier sample of the center pieces. I did what I thought I wanted to do in the color thread I was thinking about and was just undecided.

My bottom line – it’s good that it’s interesting up close, but I want to think about is the time spent worth the overall effect? Is there an effect? The color was less obvious than I thought at first but when I looked at it first thing this morning I did like the textural effect. So I’ll think about it some more later.

Dracula, the #haiku,

I was trying to find the spelling for caleche, a type of carriage and bookmarked the wiki article about Dracula. I’m listening to it in prep for taking an online class on fantasy and science fiction. The first two books in the course are a colection of Grimm tales and Carroll’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass.

Stoker’s Dracula
scary tale told in journals
the truth unfolding.

demon blood suckers,
apparitions of evil
expanding their realm.

Done with this color. On to the next!

Bobbin 5 and a left over bobbin

I pushed on, listening still to Dracula. Now the center portion of my quilt is quilted and it’s time to do a little experimenting with brown threads to see what’s going to happen next.

Distractions are always welcome, and Naomi stepped up with info about Finncon. Maybe not this year – but let’s keep an eye on it for next, eh?

Bobbin 5 #bobbincount

Listening along to the tale of Dracula, well actually the letter of dear Lucy to her dearest friend. Suddenly, no stitching!

I think I’ll pause for an early dinner.
