For In Those Days…

For in those days the walls between the worlds were thinner and visits to strange, shining places more believable than they would be now. Also, all these people had heard of the wisdom of the Old Tribes, and most of them had in their veins some of that ancient, knowing blood.
Prince of Annwn, Evangeline Walton

This, not like “once upon a time” or “in the days when wishes still mattered”, comes at the end of the first part of this book. It made sense when I thought about it: Pwyll has returned from his journey, is trying to get his feet back under him in his mortal kingdom and and he decides to come clean and tell e everyone the story of what happened. But, it surely happens at the moment when he begins to tell the tale and the new listeners have to step into the other world and believe.

The Final Stack

I’m feeling pretty good about it. It’s about 70 haiku.

Today’s adventure

I started with a really good long sleep. Didn’t feel quite good last night and after I watched The Voice, I tried to get started with the last debate. Just couldn’t do it. Finally crawled into bed, finished the first part of my book and fell asleep. Woke up briefly around 4 and then slept til a bit after nine. Been awhile.

It’d been a long week with its share of stresses from a variety of sources so I’m not at all surprised I needed some extra zzzzz’s.

Today’s projects included finding a replacement knob for the dryer. Recently I thought the dryer was dying/had died and instead I found the inside of the timer knob had cracked. This meant the timer wasn’t setting to anything in particular. Works like a champ using a pliers to turn the metal shaft. Phew. Rensselaer Appliance was able to order one for me and it should be here soon enough.

Also, I punched holes in my haiku cards (while keeping an eye on the Apple announcements) and counted the two stacks. The Best o’Best stack is about 37 while the Funny Alts is 22. The instructions say you need at least 25 and probably want two to three times that.

Guess I will go look through the maybe list one more time. Then what? Reading them out loud?

Winnowing #haiku

I have a too-big pile of “Best” cards. So I’m sitting here trying to reduce the number to a useable one. I guess that’s a good problem. So from the

this and that and haiku-free!

I realized last night that although I don’t post a lot every day, I have stuck with the plan of posting more frequently. Despite working on a Quilt National submission that I couldn’t show you in progress, the blog got filled up with photos, quotes, poems and a whole lotta haiku. When I looked this morning there were indeed a lot of posts this year and this is number 803.

Onward through the fall and winter!
