Monday in April

I can’t believe we’re so far into this month of writing poetry. I’ve been finding the sonnet challenging but today I’d write out a line and count it off and BLAM it was 10 syllables. I know that’s not always the point but at least it’s a start.

Meanwhile it’s a rollercoaster of a month inside and outside weatherwise. Just that time of year.

sun! daffodils! warm sun! good stuff!

Earth Day, Day 22 NaPoWriMo

The earth, round and rolling around the sun
old beyond ken, rolling with the punches
rolling with the tides of all the oceans
rolling with the ebb and flow of beings.
It slides through space gravities exerting,
the sun, the moon, the dark matter unseen
all keeping it on its path and axis
a respectable distance from its neighbors
This bright blue green dot so glassy and small
travelling through space so vast, black and cold
While we may eye Mars’ broad plains and ice caps
we hold earth close as mother, life itself.
We hold thee dear, earth, mother, spring of life
and wrap our arms around thee carefully.

NaPoWriMo Day 21 – what’s your fortune say?

NaPoWriMo suggested we try our hand at writing fortunes – one-liners. I took it that a tweetable poem would be short enough so I stuck with seventeen syllables a pop. That should fit on those little strips of paper, eh?

Your destiny, waiting
for you around the next bend
be ready for it.

the most fragrant bud:
the one taken, most gently
and lifted to nose.

you’re the first to know,
you’re holding the best fortune
you will ever read.

Prepare for the best,
Over-prepare for the worst
and stockpile chocolate.

Poem on the ride home

The column of orange up
from the white hot edge
of the dark horizon clouds.
A column of fire, no.
A farewell wave of the sun
til we meet again
The painterly pink to the north
delicately sitting across
from the main attraction.
Here comes night.
