Late Night

Owl hooting nearby. I only hear the one and it’s a wonder I can hear it over the snoring cats.

In other news…

Seems quiet in the neighborhood at the moment (there was a lot of yelling down the road awhile ago) so it’s time to curl up with some cats.

There was some weird glitch that I asked bluehost about. In the process of fixing it, they managed to disconnect and take down the whole site… but that’s fixed again. So this is sort of a test post but it’s an honest to goodness real post too.

Did a little writing on my first vakay-day and a little of this and that. It was a beautiful day outside, really couldn’t have been much better. The leaf color is not real bright, at least not yet, probably because we have been having cool nights but no frost yet. So soon.

Here goes…

Take your pick

My destiny! My fate! My fortune(s)!

Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

– William Ernest Henley

Sad day on the app store front

I went to look up a word on my phone and… my oxford american dictionary has vanished. Although it’s still in iTunes under my purchase history, it’s not in the store and didn’t get reloaded into my phone. What’s up with that?

I’m guessing it’s abandoned and not updated to iPhone 5 but still. Given the large number of words I’ve looked up I guess I can’t complain about the cost of buying into another version, this time from Oxford U itself (hoping that they’ll keep it going indefinitely).

Still and all, having a powerful dictionary in my pocket is up there with having a whole wide range of music in there.
