Post-Workshop-Mush

Today was the day that I went off to Great Barrington to take an intensive workshop with Winter Miller. There were fifteen of us in the yoga/meditation space. We started out with some talking out loud things. Then, a series of writing prompts – some short exercises, followed by longer periods of writing based around what had gone just before.

I ended up writing about three different sets of characters and situations. It was very useful learning ways to generate information which might motivate a person or color a situation, to be able to think: ok, I know these three things, these two people in this situation and now they are going to interact. Go! They got to the point very quickly.

Even if the instructions seemed hard or not what I would normally do, I used my normal taking a class approach and did it the teacher’s way. Otherwise what’s the point, right? The results were quite interesting. She had encouraged us not to say “no” to the exercises or what might come up during the work but to get to where you could say “yes” to something in it. Another day of snow

Drove very slowly and carefully to the vets this morning with two less-than-interested cats. I don’t think it’s the new carriers that are the problem, but just that they don’t like the whole process of getting put into them. Today I tricked them into having breakfast in the bathroom where I closed the door, let them eat while I combed my hair and then put one and then the other into the soft carriers. Oh well, they didn’t like the hard carrier either and this is way easier for me to move them!

It’s been snowing steadily all day sometimes quite hard. That makes me think we’re above that elevation where heavier snowfalls are expected. Very pretty to look at from inside and brings lots of hungry birds to the feeders.

Tomorrow I’m joining Gail and others in Great Barrington for a writers workshop. That should be interesting. Used it as an excuse to stop at Staples last night for new paper and pens. Like I need an excuse!

Meanwhile all the banal stuff of doing wash, having coffee, and watching the snow.

Oh and the young lady who brought us to our exam room this morning asked if she could ask an unusual question. That question was “are you an Albany NaNoWriMo person?” And she is too, so shout out to Tiffany for asking and well met!

Yeah, that’s right

Saw this in the description for a tshirt and just nodded:

Your friends played soccer, took ballet lessons, and wove baskets underwater. But you were honing your skills in digital battles that determined the fate of multitudinous worlds. Now they look upon you in awe and wonder, “How can one person have such skill?” And you may look down up upon them and say, “I was Classically Trained”.

I already have a “classically trained” raiding tshirt which made me laugh even harder.

The floatingness of real life

I try not to laugh at all the little details of real life that worm their way into my NaNoWriMo, but hey, they always say to write what you know! I was reading one part of the tale today though and wondered, weren’t there photos of that little round stone that’s mentioned?

And indeed, there are.
