Time to unpack

Well, give me a few, but the initial opening of the suitcase and piling up a few things has begun. Interesting stuff when its all piled up. Laundry done and put back in suitcase to go home.

(Note the tiny map of LAX that I needed to backtrack to the right terminal – thank you information booth guy. I’m a big fan of printed material sometimes. And even though I found the immigration–>baggage claim–>customs process at LAX deeply in the over-the-top-barbaric, I couldn’t help but admire the table tennis paddle signs held by the folks directing the winding lines. There were hundreds of people winding back and forth and, trust me, they needed direction.)

Awww they liked me

I unlocked my suitcase (TSA-friendly lock) and things looked a little messier than I expected but hey, it’s been getting flung into and out of planes for a couple days. As I removed the first couple things off the top though, this came out.

How subtly checked out is that? I poked around and looked like everything was there and mostly in not too bad a state. Considering. I’d repacked in order to get everything as small as possible.

I’m very glad that I wasn’t packing any real weta, eh?

Happy Birthday Billy Collins

I enjoyed reading various poems and birthday wishes to Billy Collins which appeared for his 75th birthday yesterday. (I’m a little fuzzy about the meaning of “yesterday” at the moment since I’m pretty sure I left Auckland on Sunday night and it seems to be Monday morning here in Philly and yet I’ve gone through two nights…)

Anyway, while I was reading various Billy Collins poems, I realized it’s a nice side benefit of having gone to hear him read in person that I get to hear his poems in his own voice as I’m reading them, and I have a really good idea of how he’d read them. Very helpful indeed.

Oh yeah, now I remember

It was the LAX Air NZ waiting area that had the bench seats with USB and power ports at EVERY.STINKIN’.SEAT. Built right into the furniture for pete’s sake.

Seriously folks. It’s 2015 already.

Of course Air NZ has USB and power ports on board… at every.stinkin’.seat… Nothing like taking the pressure off during a really long flight.
