The iBot had its first adventure as an on-the-site webcam tonight where it got to record via time-lapse photography the set up of NYQuilts!. Set up took a little longer than the movie implies – about 5 hours once quilt hanging started.

The cat webcam will be going on hiatus for a few days (OK, probably until Monday) while I live out one of my long-time dreams: to make a time lapse movie of NYQuilts! from set up to take down. If all goes as planned I’ll be putting the pismo to use for this so I can continue to use the new Powerbook also known as PB_AL.
This time lapse won’t be going up on the web though, at least not right away. But stay tuned for future developments.

Kentucky man pleads guilty to damaging quilt (as reported in the Houston Chronicle)
A Kentucky quilting machine manufacturer pleaded guilty Monday to defacing an Elvis quilt with bleach, guaranteeing himself a trip to the jailhouse without the rock.
Daniel G. Puckett, 47, admitted damaging the “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Elvis” quilt in exchange for a six-month sentence in state prison.
Dressed in an ill-fitting suit with a colorful tie, Puckett looked like a tenant in the heartbreak hotel when he stood before state District Judge Debbie Mantooth Stricklin.
“I would like to apologize to Arlene Blackburn for damage I did to (the) quilt,” he said. “I have made mistakes in the past, and over this I have lost everything.”
Blackburn, the fabric artist who created the $6,500 Elvis-inspired quilt, believes Puckett tossed bleach on her quilt as part of a vendetta that began after she successfully sued him over a defective machine in 2001.
The bleach incident occurred during November’s International Quilt Festival at the George R. Brown Convention Center. [Read the IQF report on the incident here]
The good news? Arlene is still showing her work and will have quilts at NYQuilts! this year.

You do remember recent holiday gifts exchanged between my brother and myself, right? OK, quick review. First: The Monkey Bowl. Then, there were these and finally, this year, this. All from my brother (and his family to me (and Ron). Oh yeah and then I gave my brother this year: The Hippo.
All of this does throw a different cast on looking at what’s out there to be had. I found a link to this on someone else’s site and now, I regret not having seen it earlier. What a perfect gift it would have been, eh?
