Before computers, what did you type on?

Well, that would have been a typewriter. I’d been thinking about the one I’d used in college for awhile wondering where it had gone and one night in July my brother and I were in the cellar of our childhood home, we looked down and there it was. And here it is.

Everything seems to work except it needs a good cleaning and a new ribbon. Found this on the Smith Corona site which was sad:

however I did find the freakin’ manual online, so I guess it’s all good.

I can’t really say I’d prefer to type on this over a fine Apple keyboard. It takes a lot of power to drive a typewriter key down. It’s a lot easier to make corrections on a computer too, something I’d be loathe to give up. But, I was still glad to see it again.
