The last lap

Long time readers will remember that when the last little wiggly bit of quilting is done, the night doesn’t end without a final pass of straight stitching all around the edges of the quilt. This makes it all ready for trimming and squaring up the edges.

Tonight I turned the third corner which sounds good but it really means I’m halfway around doing the binding and sleeves. I usually start that last lap, the binding, a short distance from the upper right hand corner and go across the top edge to start.

Lest this sound too ritualistic, there are good reasons for this. For example, I sew down the sleeve as I go across the top, too. This means that I can use the sleeve to hang the quilt up sooner. It also means that I get one of the long edges out of the way.

Halfway done. Bottom edge and sleeve tomorrow and then a run up the last side. I’ll do the label as part of this too.

That way, done means done.

Hooray for you my favorite quilter. When it is finished it is something to be proud of.
Workmanship is so important. Great feeling to be at this step of the process.
