Isn’t that the way?

Yesterday I wondered why I was waiting to replace my broken-framed computer glasses so I went off to pick out new frames and get the process going. The nice lady there, Donna, picked out a bunch of frames similar to what I had and we sat down and looked at them. As I tried them on, she talked about what she liked and didn’t like about them. Struck me like a good part of her job is like dressing up dolls. Perhaps she reads your face while you’re busy looking at yourself and the potential frames in the mirror? I don’t know.

At the end she went off to check my insurance and don’t you know I’m a few weeks from being eligible for new ones? Not being stupid, I went with her offer of holding the information until I call her on the first so I will pay about 1/4 of what I would otherwise. Thank you Donna.

I’m re-reading Stephen King’s On Writing and enjoying it all over again. When I offered to tell an online friend about the idea I have about some characters his response was “write it yourself!” I don’t think that’s likely – and I’d enjoy the surprise of finding out what happened to those people if HE wrote about them but ok. I’ll just know what I know about them for the moment.

I’ve started pushing to sew together all those little squares. All 864 of them. Otherwise I won’t be able to take them with me to my guild’s get away weekend. Well, that’s one reason. There are two other better reasons. One is the fear that they’ll fall off the wall and leave me to reconstruct the whole thing. Sewing them together at least one way keeps them connected and in order.

The other reason is that the next quilt is poking at my brain and I need the wall space. Wonder what I’d have to take to the weekend to get that one underway? LOL. As much as it’s poking at me, I don’t have a very clear sense of it or what fabrics I need for it yet. Oh well I have a lot of back seat space for fabric. And I guess I’ll take my now semi-retired small boards of insulation board to camp with me just in case.

Love that I’m working a full week beforehand. Really makes packing for an intense work weekend and working while there just …. awesome. I have about 4 weeks of accrued vacation time and that’s after taking two weeks off recently. I need to figure out when I will most likely need another two weeks of My_Work™ time and request it off now. Wish it were so easy to figure out.

Today is my last day off before the get away weekend. It’s spectacularly gorgeous out. I am committed to getting a big chunk of this first-way-sewing done so I can figure out packing for the weekend etc. Darn. Well, I know I will be quite happy when this sewing pass is done, the thing is pressed and I can start to see what the finished thing will look like.

Off I go now.
