Day Nine, NaPoWriMo

Cars seemed determined to jump in front of me today. Good for them that I’m an attentive driver but my attentiveness will not always overcome the laws of physics.

Cars this morning
pulling out of driveways.
I see them: some hesitate
judging, trusting,
daring, looking,
they do as taught:
right and left,
and then commit
There’s no second guessing
after you push forth
you hope that car slows,
the one in the near view,
hope they see you joining
the morning stream of cars
determined in their
migration to the normal,
morning destinations.
I, slowing as needed,
keep the social contract
and merge our paths.
