Big discussion going on over on a list about blogging: why, how, how much. I read this with some dark amusement, having posted from time to time, even last week<\/a> or so, about what I’m doing here and why.<\/p>\n

Here’s another look from 2011, on the occasion of post #2000<\/a>. <\/p>\n

I guess as with all writing, especially long-ongoing writing, blogging has to be for the writer’s purpose and fulfill something for the writer. Benefits to the reader are a total bonus. The response from readers is fun but unpredictable and don’t serve as much of a motivation. If I were fueled only by comments I would never have made it past year one.<\/p>\n

I wear my original blogger tshirt proudly, from back when Ev Williams<\/a> (you remember him – blogger, twitter, branch etc) and pals worked out of somebody’s basement or garage – and I was so excited to have a way to do website updates. It was something beyond what I’d supported and done at Tripod for personal webpages and it’s the closest thing to a diary I’ve ever had. had a few off years but last year for fun I tried to have 1000 posts. Didn’t quite make it but it was fun in the trying.<\/p>\n
