a very grumpy monk. The Summer 2008 issue of Poemeleon furnishes many more great examples. So pick a character to inhabit — a person from history, an imaginary or mythical person (like Snow White or Zeus), or just someone you’re not (an Olympic marathon champion, perhaps? I know I’m not one of those), and write in their voice.

Well no big persona speaking here, just more in the month’s series and a flash of something for NaNoWriMo.

You can ignore me if you want.

You can pretend I’m just not here.

I won’t do that to you,

No, I won’t do that to you.

Because you’re real to me

no matter what you think

no matter if you don’t

if you don’t believe in me.

I believe in you.

You’re real to me.

And you can trust me

when I say

I’m just as real

I’m just as here for you.

I wish I knew

if they were real

Sometimes at night

I see a flash

a tip of wing

but I don’t trust my eyes

it’s the half-light

the coming night’s slumber

I hear a note or two

I think I do

is it down the road?

is it in my dream?

There’s something more

I hope there’s something more

than the darkness.

Something light in the darkness.
