The poem consists of three-line englyn stanzas and exists in several versions all in Middle Welsh. The earliest surviving version is in the Black Book of Carmarthen, completed around 1250, though the poem may have been composed in the 10th or 11th century.[1] The poem is significant for its early mention of King Arthur.\"><strong>Geraint, Son of Erbin<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Black Book of Caermarthen XXII<br \/>\nRed Book of Hergest XIV<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>III. Under the thigh of Geraint were swift racers,<br \/>\nLong their legs, grain was given them,<br \/>\nRuddy ones, with the assault of black eagles.<\/p>\n<p>XII. Under the thigh of Geraint were swift racers,<br \/>\nLong-legged, restless over their grain,<br \/>\nRuddy ones, with the assault of red eagles.<\/p>\n<p>XIII. Under the thigh of Geraint were swift racers,<br \/>\nLong-legged, grain-scattering,<br \/>\nRuddy ones, with the assault of white eagles.<\/p>\n<p>XIV.
