today I measured in small stitches
\ngathering up the edges of curves
\npart watching the silver needle
\nkeeping the thread from twisting
\nironing turned edges with a firm hand.
\nWhile my work began to build
\nI listened to a poet spin out words
\nbuilding an epic tale of ages past
\ntelling the story so plain I wept
\nat the end as the hero’s pyre burned
\nand his loyal men fulfilled his wishes.
\nTo tell an epic story, to march the words
\nforward and forward and forward
\nuntil they overlook the seas of time
\nthat’s all our work, small pieces
\nwe might hope to leave behind for
\nsomeone else to hold and see.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
