Dedicated to new mothers out there.
Sleep While the Baby Sleeps*
Gentle, worn out mother
filled with love
taken by exhaustion;
your own, small, wee love
lays finally sleeping
relaxed and rosy,
your own hand large and still
inches from the tiny fingers
the curve of eyelashes
the last you see
before your own eyes
simply
happily
close.
* This was advice often given by my Grandmother Mulligan to new mothers.
Thanks for the tribute to the greatest mother, my mother.
Sleep or rest while the baby sleeps.
